Labor Day Adventure
Part #2
Baffin Bay, Texas

Well all I can say is that I HATE seaweed, With the gulf just full of seaweed we decide to spend our three day weekend fishing the bays! I call a couple of friends and they said come on down! This is the second part of our adventure! The plans were to pick a spot before it got dark, set up camp and catch fish!

After washing up and getting some rest at my dad's house we are ready to head out to one of Ronnie's and my favorite spot. We load up Ronnie's boat and head out into Baffin bay. When we get to our spot we see someone in boat a close to it. We decided not to crowed them and park further down the beach than usual. We decided to try to catch fresh mullet and wait it out. To my surprise these guys left a prime location. Before dark we have all the rods set out and the BS'ing began. We started to atch black drum and redfish all night long. We started to cull around midnight. We kept catching most of the night. Around 3 in the morning we started to catch hardhead's Not cool! I for one cant get to sleep once the sun comes up so I went to sleep in my chair around 5 in the morning. Albert had already gotten some ZZZ's so I told him it was his turn to watch the poles. I awoke to the sound of a fish splashing in shallow water and Albert cursing about something. With a disgusted look on his face I asked "Was it BIG?" Yep was the answer! I saw him go to the boat to get another leader but we both noticed a rod twitch. Both of us just knew it was a catfish. With a grin on his face Albert encouraged me to reel in the rod. I reluctantly got up and started to reel it in. The catfish pulled drag. It must be loose I thought. I tightened the line and it pulled drag again. I tightened the drag one more time and it started to steadily take out drag. This time I really woke up and paid attention. This wasn't a catfish. I readjust the drag and he fight was on. By this time I had less than half a spool on my reel. All of a sudden the rod next to me takes off and I grab it. Albert came over and started fighting his fish. It too was a good one. My fish took more line before I tuned it. It took me about 80 yards or so down the beach. Albert landed his fish and I was still fighting mine. Eventually she was in.
Take a look.
Albert's fish is 33" long and mine went 43" long. Both caught on 12 pound test line.
The boys and I with some nice fish!

Albert with his best fish of the trip.

Ronnie and I with a very nice light tackle challenge!

After a wakeup call like this we decided to pack it up and head in!
It was going to be along trip back to Dallas for Anthony and we had plenty of fish to clean and memories of our success! We ended releasing all the oversized fish and boxing numerous keeper black drum and redfish.
Thanks for the invite Ronnie.
We always do well!
