The Drum Hole!
Surfside, Texas

Surf-Master's Drum Run Pre-Fishing!

We decided to head to the Drum Hole and fish with our buddy Robert and Miracle. We arrived around 9:00 am. Robert already had a fish on and one or two already released. He had fish hitting as we were setting up. Robert being the kind of guy that he is let Anthony and I land a few of his fish.
Thanks Robert!

Robert with the first Bull Drum that we had seen for the day.

Bull Drum #1
Robert then let Anthony bring in one on his rod. Notice how we do not have our waders on yet.

Bull Drum #2
Shortly afterwards Anthony then hooks up to another Big Ugly!

Bull Drum #3
Shortly afterwards Anthony gets another. Now I am thinking he is hogging all the rods.

Bull Drum #4
The next pole I saw even twitching I picked up and look what it had.

When fishing off a pier we use a Landalot® Net.

Bull Red #1
Then the boy tries to one up me buy catching himself a nice red.

Alex and Gary did not have a working camera and asked if we could get a picture of them. Not a problem buddy! Good meeting the both of you.

Bull Drum #5
The boy again with a nice drum. I must be getting slower with this colder weather.

Alex with his first Bull Drum, a huge 23 pounder!
Alex fought this fish until he could not feel his arms.(He told me himself) Alex did not let up on this fish until it was on the shore. Way to go Alex! I sure was impressed.

Bull Red #2
After a slowdown in the action one of the poles starts to bind over like it was going to break. Anthony proceeds in bringing in the second red of the day. This thing was big. This fish had the biggest girth on a redfish that I have seen in a long time. You should have let Robert bring this one in.

Bull Drum #6
Now I am looking at every rod like an eagle. I was not going to let anything slip buy. It paid off with this brute.

Bull Drum #7
Next my favorite 20# class brown rod bent over and Anthony knew not to touch this one. This fish may have been the biggest of the trip.

Bull Drum #8
As the sun started to go down things really started to pick up. Check out this nice double!

Bull Drum #9
Anthony with another one right before packing up.

Bull Drum #10
Right before I brought in the last rod it started to bend like crazy. This is why!

12/29/04

We get to the Drum Hole around 9:00am and look what was parking right where we were going to fish! They just stayed there with the engines running to keep the ship from drifting off with the incoming tide. We decided to head to the M.O.B but we did not even have a bite. So back the the Drum hole we went. It was now about 2:30 pm and the barge was still there. We set up closer to the jetties to see if we could hook up and look below to see what happened. As soon as we set up all our gear the barge decided to leave.

Bull Drum #11
With all the catching going on the day before the girls wanted to get into the action. Priscilla with the first Bull Drum of the day. Yes, Mommy came with us on this trip!

Bull Drum #12
Albert with his catch. The girls wanted to get into this picture also.

Bull Drum #3
Anthony took the next one. Actually Andie took the next one but we somehow lost it. I was surprised the circle hook let loose. It must not have set correctly.

Bull Red #13
After seeing one of the poles jerking like crazy I said "This one is mine". I do not know if the boys heard me or just did not want to get run over.

Bull Drum #14
As the mosquitoes started to come out this fish hit.

Bull Drum #15 and #16
We have pictures of these two fish but are on a new disposable camera that I was not about to develop until all the pictures are taken.

Now for the REPORT!

We had a blast catching these BIG fish. On the 28th we saw at least 16 drum and 2 reds caught. I do not have the picture of all the fish. I am pretty sure Robert has more pictures that could be added to this report. It was good fishing with you again. On the 29th things were a little slower only due to the barge being in our way and not fishing the Drum Hole the majority of the day. If we would have set up there first thing in the mourning I know we could of had even a better day. 7 fish sure beats a sharp stick in the eye. All fish were from 35-44 inches long and were very healthy. All were caught on crabs and swam off strong after getting the air out of there bladder. We landed a total of 3 bull redfish and 16 Big Uglies in the two days. We plan to head back before the end of the year, why don't you come and join us.

Team C.B.F's scores again!

I thank God for blessings he has given this family!
