The Story:
The Zamora family and ours have been friends for many years. We've gone hunting, camping and other family gatherings for almost as long as I can remember. Now they may be moving to California. We decided to get together during spring break to spend some time together. It was difficult to figure out what we wanted too do. Then I realized that we have never been fishing together. Those that know me may think that is IMPOSSIBLE but it's true. Once that was figured out we decided to head to stay at some cabins we know of in Lamar Texas. Shortly after the plans were made the smack talking started! Albert, Anthony and Ashley took some time off to join us. We also had our Nephew/Niece join us for the first time. As the trip date got closer I had all my gear cleaned and prepared for the trip. I also started to worry about the dreaded SKUNK! We have successfully fished this area before but you never know. I also picked this weekend because of the Super Moon that we would be fishing at night. The moon would be the closest it had been too the earth in 18 years. The moon was going to generate great tidal movement and we all know the fish feed during this time. The trip got closer and I asked the LORD to get us into a few fish.
Below are the results!
Day ONE!
Fulton Pier, Fulton Texas

After a relatively late arrival and long day of packing and traveling Andie and Albert decide to stay in the cabin and get more beauty sleep. What the heck it's Spring Break Right? Priscilla and I decided to head to Fulton Pier and see what we could find The wind was howling and it was foggy! Just the way I like it when chasing BU's! Priscilla said she was just going to keep me company and not fish. We set up the rods and wait. Around 1:30 am we get our first run. It was a very respectable 42 incher. Back in the water it went and the rod was casted back out.

After about an hour later(3:30 ish) another rod takes off. I start fighting the fish and Priscilla maned the net. Then all of a sudden another rod went slack the started too run. We had our first double of the trip. Unfortunately we were the only two on the pier. Her fish took her on way and mine went the other. I had to man up and net the fish solo. With a very large 46" on the deck I went to help Priscilla land hers. After straining to get the fish on the pier I realized that I got punked by my wife. Her fish measured a whopping 47 inches. Her largest ever and the BIGGEST of the trip. It was huge!

Take a look at these beasts. The net measures 42 inched in diameter.
Nice fish Priscilla.
With these two on the deck we decide to go back to the cabin.

Day TWO!
Fulton Pier, Fulton Texas

After sleeping as long as we waned we get up and goof off in Rockport. We messed with the clicker on a reel and then head out back too the Fulton Pier. The wind was even worse than the night before. Not a problem. We set up our faithful tarp and protected ourselves from the wind. Casting into the wind was still another issue but I managed. It was another slow night but we did see some people lose fish so I new they were around.

Around midnight a rod had a bite and Andie said she wanted it. Take a look at what my little girl brought in.
It is a huge 45-1/2" Black drum.

After recognizing two young men from the pier the night before we invited to fish amongst our rods. They took a crab and set out their larger pole. not fifteen minutes late they get a massive run. Shortly afterwards Addison had his biggest BU on the deck.
Take a look at this HUGE 46-1/4" MONSTER!
Nice fish my friend!

Not long after we had one of our lightest rod get a hit and Priscilla said it was hers!
The fight was on!
Eventually we get this big 44 incher on the deck and photographed.

Day THREE!
Goose Island State Park, Lamar Texas

This was the day the Zamora were to show up. We were not catching big numbers but the fish we had caught so far were all candidates for the MONSTER List 2011. The Z's show up around noon and we BS'ed for a bout 2 hours. The crabs we had were dying off so we headed out in search of more. We have a yearly Texas park pass so off too Goose Island State park we went! I brought some spinning rods for the kids so we set them up and got too fishing. Well Gabby was the first to hook up. Her first fish ever turned out to be a stingray!
She was stomping her brothers for a while until they picked up the feel for a bite.

Zak with his first fish of the trip! WTG Zak!

The Z kids continued to catch smallish fish for a while until I noticed a hit on the big rods. It looked as if we lost the crab due to a sheephead. Maybe I should have payed better attention. After instructions on how to fight a BIG Fish we drew numbers too see who was going to be first. Mike went first, Zak then Alex was up. Shortly after this was taken care of we had a screaming run. Mike grabbed the rod and the fight was on. Someone said we had crossed a line but when I checked we had another fish on another rod we were moving out of the way from the first. Zak was up!
After a bit of confusion we had a father and son team with their largest BU ever on the deck!
WTG guys!

Andie and Gabby staying out of the wind! Did I mention that the wind was blowing 20 plus all week long?

Alex with his first BU ever! This one went 41 inches.

Gloria with her first fish ever!
Congratulations!
That is a very nice 43 incher! This one will be hard too beat!<

Did I mention that when fishing in a state park your entry fee serves as a licence.
Take a look here
State Park FREE Fishing!

Chris with his first BU ever! A very sweet 44 incher! YES! This is one of the young men from the other pier!

Andie just could not let the Z boy's out do her. Here she is with a nice 43-1/2" BU.

The crew behind the tarp once it got dark. It started to get cold!

Addison with yet another nice fish!

Mike with a Monster 44-1/2" incher!

Albert with a NICE one!

Priscilla just could not let the guests catch them ALL!

Alex with a HUGE 44 incher that he could not pick up. This fish was at least 50 pounds!

We decided to get off the pier early this night. (Midnight) Anthony and Ashley were at the cabin and the group was getting hungry. We also ran out of live crabs. I'm sure glad we tried a different location. It seemed to have payed off!

Day FOUR!
Goose Island State Park, Lamar Texas
Best day and biggest group.

After waking up fairly early and making a run into town to get crabs we decided to go site seeing! Here we are at the "BIG Tree" in Lamar, Texas. you should check it out one day. It is believed to be over a thousand years old. OK! this is not the actual BIG Tree but one right next too it. You can't clime the real one. The crew could not wait to get to the pier so off we went. I called my nephew Randy and mentioned where we were but I never check my phone after that and I missed his calls.

Gabby back at it! She caught on pretty quick! I bet her Daddy is proud of her.

Since Anthony had not fished in a while and the fact that he lost his wedding ring right in front of his wife after baiting the rods and washing his hands he deserved the first fish of the day.
Not a bad fish BOY!

Randy with a nice BU! No direction didn't stop him from finding us and a fish!

Look who was back in the rotation!

Alex with yet another impressive fish!

Ashley with a fish we thought was going to be a keeper, NOT! It turned out to be 33 inches. During the entire time she fought this fish Zak is fighting a fish that he hooked before her.

Zak with another sweet 43 inch fish that did not want to come in. This fish was a battle!
Look at those smiles! This is what it is all about!

Randy with a very fat BU! This fish was pushing 40 inches but who knows how much it weighed?

Torrey was reluctant to join in but the action convinced her. This is her very first time fishing and the first time she reeled in a fish!
A 41 inch BU is not a bad way to start a fishing career! I think Randy and her will be joining us fishing more often!

Gloria with her second fish ever! Yes it is still WINDY!

Andie just could not help herself!

A big crew to put on fish but the LORD made it happen!

While I was watching the rods I felt a dainty tug on my leg and a small voice asked "Chapa, When am I going to catch a big fish?"
I said your NEXT! Shortly afterwards Gabby was on a fish. Here daddy helped a bit but this fish was all hers. She must have been watching closely because she hardly needed any coaching.
That is a very nice first BU for a 6 year old little girl!
WTG Gabby!

Gabby and the Zamora Family.

As the sun was going down Albert gets into the action!

It looks like Mike is getting the hang of catching!

Anthony doing his thing!

Alex wanted to pick this one up himself!

Check out this double! Anthony's went 39 inches and I think we got an erroneous reading of 45-1/2" for Albert's fish! This was a true MONSTER BU. I bet it was pushing 70 plus pounds. If you've met Albert you know he is not a small wimpy kid. this fish made him STRUGGLE!

Mike with yet another GOOD fish!

Alex with a very impressive 44 inch BU. I think this was his biggest of the trip.
Many people don't EVER land a fish that BIG!

Zak just could not be out done by his big bro but I think Alex's fish was bigger.
Next time Zak!

Anthony with a fat 44 incher!

Mike with his personal best BU going 45 inches and maybe pushing 60+ pounds. I could not let him disrespect this fish without it being picked up properly and getting a good picture!
Man, maybe you should have kissed this one. LOL!

Priscilla back at it again. The Zamora Men seem to have had their share!

Me and the Zamora men with the last fish of the night!

Day FIVE!
Goose Island State Park, Lamar Texas
It had to happen - The Zamora Family had too leave and Albert had to get back work but the rest of us wanted another night fishing under the Super MOON! I waited for weeks for this and I was not going to miss it. We took a nap after replenishing our crab supply and I get a text from a friend asking if I was fishing. I tell him the status and where we were and he actually beats me too the pier. Luckily I was minutes away!

Mike P. with a very nice first fish of the day!

Here is Mr. Barbosa and his Spring break Crew that decided to fish with us.

Again! After using my rods they started to ask what gear I was using and where I got the leaders.

I showed them our Catchalot® Leaders!

Mike P with his biggest of the day! This behemoth measured 45-3/4 inches!

Mike with yet another!

The guy in the middle had never caught a BU in the 10 years fishing during Spring Break. I'm glad I was able to get you into one.

Mikes good at this!

Anthony finally arrives from visiting grandparents and gets into the action.

Mommy had to catch her one too.

Fish HARD or stay home with your MOMMY!

Mike with little dude from Austin helping him out. This is the first BIG fish he had seen!

Number two!

Little Dude with his first BU ever! I'm glad I could get him onto this fish!
He did a very nice job fighting this fish.

The girls with a double. Unfortunately Andie lost her's. We tried!

Ashley with hers!

Andie could not let her sister-in-law out fish her!

Andie and Priscilla with fish #60!

Without the LORD we would not have such a successful trip. We landed a total of 60 BU's with a size ranging from 33 to 47 inches with an average of around 41 inches and 35 pounds. We caught seven that were 45 inches or BIGGER!
If you do the math we caught over 200 feet and literally over a TON of fish!

This was a trip of a LIFETIME and I do not think we will ever match it.

Don't think this will STOP us from Trying!

Mike, Gloria, Emily, Alex, Zak and Gabby GOD Bless and be safe in California we are truly going to miss your company!
