BIG RED Weekend!

Check out this 28" red. Not a bad for the first fish of the weekend.
Maybe this is a sign of things to come. Did I mention that I am working on a fly that I am calling the "Automatic". So far it has been working extremely well.

Look at Anthony with his first redfish of the weekend.
Not too shabby 24 incher!

Here is the boy with an even bigger redfish!
This baby went a whopping 26 inches.

Anthony and myself with after a midday wade.
Man he is getting big and good with his flyrod.

Check out this monster! A whopping 31 1/2 inches.
The largest fish I have caught on a flyrod ever. I could not bring myself to tagging this beauty.

NOW for a FISH STORY!
As I set out to make my evening wade I make my way to a spot that I have caught big fish before. In the distance in the floating I see a log that seems to be drifting (moving) time to time. I quietly make my way over and find that it is the back of a redfish in about 10-12 inches of water. After calming down I slowly make my way over into casting distance (25 to 35 feet)! I make my cast and it was so close that the fish just sucked it in without moving. I really was uncertain if the fish had my fly but I could no longer see it. I slowly strip my line and feel resistance so I raised my rod tip and all hell broke loose 30 feet in front of me. The fish takes off and breaks me off on the initial run. All I felt was brute strength I tell you brute strength!!! My guess would be that this fish was at least 38-40 inches long. I know where he is and will be going after him again. Maybe I can get my fly back.
After this I head back to this little cove that had at least 12 redfish in the 28-32" range about 40 feet away and coming too me. I make my cast not to spook any fish and I hook an 18 redfish that I had not seen and yes he scared every fish around me. I catch the one above at the end of the wade. You do not have to continue fishing after a fish like that!

Anthony fighting his third fish of the weekend.
Looks like the fish is giving him trouble

The results of the fight above.
Nice fish boy!

Here I am with a 27 1/2 and a 26 1/2 redfish.
Not bad for a Sunday morning wade!

Check out this weekends catch on a flyrod!
Or should I say what was kept. Several other smaller fish were caught but not kept. To keep this picture in perspective the drum on the left measured 15 inches.

Now for the REPORT!

We arrived to the cabin Friday night and with the exception of a 30 mile an hour mullet hitting Anthony in the knee, we arrived safely. Man did it make the boy bleed. We cleaned the wound with bleach to prevent him from catching that flesh eating virus that is around. At sunrise Anthony and Joe were catching trout and lady fish off of the cabin deck. In the morning wade Anthony and I left armed only with our fly rods. Not long after I Caught my 28 inch redfish on the "Automatic". When I realized it was big, I went back to the boat to get the camera. Meantime, Anthony caught one sight casting from on top of a submerged tire. I caught more fish later in the wade. Later in the afternoon, Anthony and I separated going two different directions. I busted off the 40+ inch redfish while Anthony was running on the shore down to a redfish back siting on the flat. He caught that fish that he saw 50 yards away which was a 26.5 inch redfish. I caught a 25 inch red and the "Monster" on this late wade. The next morning I caught 5 redfish lost 2 and Anthony caught another redfish and broke off another monster. I had the camera with me so I took the picture of him fighting the fish. Man I need to get a video camera. In all we caught 15 redfish. Anthony and I both caught our personal best this weekend. On Saturday fish were easy to find but hard to catch. It was a perfect day to sight cast since it was a day with no clouds. The water was crystal clear and had little movement. Oddly the wind was from east especially the fact that it didn't reach 15 miles an hour and we were in South Texas. On Sunday we found it quiet and calm which for being late in July that is strange. The only thing that was not strange was the fact that it was very very hot. The wind got a little higher later but from a freak northern. All in all we had a blast and fished hard. The redfish were in the shallows and we had trout feeding early Saturday and Sunday morning. We kept a total of 8 redfish.

Team C.B.F's scores again!

I thank God for blessings he has given this family and for our safe trip!
