Spring Break 2005
High Island

Katchfest!

We decided to head back to HI since we had done so well the previous weekend. We arrived on the beach around 10:00 am. The tide was so low it was not funny. I have never seen the tides so low. It must have been the north winds.

This is our story!

For those of you that have heard about the concrete retaining wall in the first gut but were not really sure they existed, here is the proof.
The tide was already covering them up by the time we had all the poles set out.

Bull Red #1 42"
Anthony has been been going to so many scholastic competitions in the last month and could not fish lately. We decided it only be right if we LET him land the first fish of the trip.

Big Ugly #1 39"
Albert could not let his brother beat him so he wanted to be next.

Bull Red #2 40"
I could not let the boys get too far ahead.
I was also standing right next to the pole when it went off.

Bull Red #3 42"
Albert started to reel this fish in without letting anyone know he was on the line.
It happened to be the biggest redfish of the day.

Sneaky Albert.

Big Ugly #2 32" and Bull Red #4 41"
I was helping Prissy with her fish when Anthony started running down the beach to reach a pole that was bending as if it were in a hurricane.
We ended up with this nice double.

I know this Big Ugly is not as large as the 48 ponder that she caught last weekend but she still refuses to hold her own fish. Albert did not mind posing with his Mommy!

Bull Red #5 41"
Albert with yet another nice redfish.

A picture like this only means one thing. Yep, another DOUBLE!

Big Ugly #3 38" and Big Ugly #4 41"
Nice catch boys! Your dad is proud of you.

Albert was having trouble holding this fish still for a good picture so we decided to weigh it.
It went a whopping 42 pounds.

Bull Red #6 40"
Anthony just had to much speed and beat Albert to one of the poles at the very end and managed to land this HOG!

Big Ugly #5 32"
The fish GOD's were with Anthony today because he had just walked down the beach when this fish hit the rod right in front of him.
LUCKY Boy!

Andie decided that she would rather play in the sand than fish. With sand castles like these at the age of five she just might be an architect when she grows up.

Bull Red #7 42"
I had just casted this rod out and was walking back to the beach to put it into the holder when this fish almost jerked the rod right out of my hands.
Nice fish for not ever getting back to the beach.

Bull Red #8 41"
Prissy could not stand watching us catch so many fish so she decided to take the next bent rod even with the persuasion of Anthony trying to get the rod from her.
Good thing because it turned out to be her very first Bull Red.
This fish weighed in at 25.5 pounds. Nice fish Prissy!

Bull Red #9 42"
After seeing everyone else catch fish I decide to take the next bent rod.
Albert says that this fish was smaller than his but I do not think so.

Now for the REPORT!

I am going to keep this short because It is getting late and need to get to sleep. We landed a total of 9 bull redfish and 5 Big Uglies. We used crabs and fresh whiting for bait. Most were caught on crabs. We did catch some whiting and we thought we spotted mullet in the first gut. When the tide was extremely low we only caught fish on the yaked out baits. As the tide got back to normal we caught fish with our casted rods. All the fish were from 32 to 42 inches long.

Team C.B.F's scores again!

I thank God for blessings he has given this family!
