Spring Break 2005
High Island

Katchfest III!

Here we go again. I really do not like the two hour drive to Hi but we know where the fish are. The hardest thing about catchingbigfish is finding them. We arrived on the beach later than yesterday say around 11:15 am and started fishing.

Below is our story!

Check this out!
The first mullet caught in the surf for 2005. You know what that means. The water is warming up. I can't wait. It only can get better.

Bull Red #1 42"
Anthony strikes first again for the third trip in a row.

Bull Red #2 39"
I wasn't going to let anybody catch more fish than me today.
The battle was on.
Too bad Aty had to be in the middle of it.

Bull Red 39"
Aty with his largest Bull Red ever. This fish weighed in at 21 pounds.

Bull Red 43"
Aty's biggest Bull Red did not even last 10 minutes. He quickly proceeded to land this 29 pounder
Way to go Aty!

You will begin to see Aty with us more often because he and Robert Smith have joined up with Team C.B.F. to compete in the annual Shark Rodeo.

Anybody recognize these people?
They were fishing right down the beach from us.

Good seeing you again Gun Doctor and meeting you Pelican, neverenough and the rest of the gang.
I hope we will get together again soon.

Bull Red #3 39"
Another nice redfish.
I had to sneak this one in.

Bull Red #4 43"
Anthony had just got back from deploying a yaked bait when the bait he had just dropped was eaten by this beast.
The boy did not even have time to take off his life jacket.

Bull Red #5 39"
I am having trouble breaking the 40" mark today.
Third 39 incher in a row.

Bull Red #6 41"
Anthony just had to much speed and beat Aty to the next bent rod. Actually Aty did not even have a chance. I did not even try.

Big Ugly #7 45"
The fish GOD's were with me because I managed to catch this whopper right after it got dark.
We had some yaked out baits and decided to see what we could catch in the dark since there was a stiff breeze and the mosquitoes were nowhere to be found.
Thank GOD.

As were were slowly packing up and checking our lines in the dark Aty discovers taht on of the rods had this fish at the other end.
This fish fought real hard on light tackle. Aty thought he had the biggest fish of the day but NOT!

Bull Red #8 38"
Anthony had one more chance at getting the biggest fish of the day but it did not happen. He did manage to catch yet another nice 39 incher.

Now for the REPORT!

I am going to keep this short because It is getting late and need to get to sleep. We landed a total of 10 bull redfish and 1 Big Ugly. We used crabs and fresh whiting for bait. Most were caught on yaked out whiting. We did manage to catch some off of casted baits late in the day. We hardly caught anything while the tide was slack. Again it was lower than usual. We managed to catch some whiting on fish bites and some mullet were caught with the cast net the first gut. All the fish were from 39 to 45 inches long.

Team C.B.F's scores again!

I thank God for blessings he has given this family!
