Team C.B.F Practices C.P.R. - Catch, Photograph & Release! |
Not long after we had a run on a big rod but someone forgot that we DO NOT set the hook when using circle hooks. Not a problem it was still early. As soon as I turned around another rod was doubling over. My turn!
I land our first bull of the day. I look around and Priscilla is fighting another
fish so I have to settle for the fish on the sand picture that I really hate but I
could not release it without a picture.
Nice fish Priscilla!!! If you look closely at the picture above you can tell the the rod behind us is straight up and the line is slack. This was on the end of the line. Not a fat fish but it did stretch the tape too 37 inches. Four fish in twenty minutes but that was pretty much for our morning. We had time to eat and catch plenty of bait. Priscilla also managed to catch 2 keeper drum. I was thinking that this was pretty much it. Reeled all the rods in and most did not have any bait. The crabs were still on the hook but nothing took them. Must have been all those croaker and whiting we were catching that ate my other baits. Whiting, mullet and croaker all went out on this round. Shortly after getting the last rod out you know who catches this. Bit small but counts! I had been watching one of my smaller pole and noticed that something was getting after the bait. I decide to leave it alone until the rod almost was pulled into the water. This fish was different for sure. It ran down the beach in a hurry. I though it was a real big red until a saw the fin! Check out this little bull shark. Man did it have an attitude! By this time Priscilla was taking a break from catching bait and never saw me sneaking away to get to the pole that had this one on! Now the wait was on. I changed several baits without much to show and decided to put out a 10" whiting just for grins. I decided to put on my lucky hat to see if it would help and five minutes later one of the biggest fish of trip was landed. This guy stretched the tape to just over 45 inches. I must have been falling asleep in my chair cause all of a sudden all I see is Priscilla heading to the rod that had the live whiting on it. This fish was really giving her a run for her money. Soon this fish was on the beach. Not extremely big in size but certainly in fight! I had not even had released Priscilla's fish when I see her running to the rod that had caught the shark earlier. YES! Same rod, same spot and same mono leader produced another bull shark. This guy was just short of four feet. Another good catch for Priscilla!!! Another check of the baits and we waited a while before this one came around. I initially had decided to stay an hour or so after sundown but when we heard the mosquitoes come out of the marsh we decided it was time to pack up and go. I had help with the first five rods the I was on my own! My helper called it quits and headed for the truck. I really HATE mosquitoes!!!!
I should have measured him because he may have been the biggest fish of the trip but I was so ready to get out of there that I forgot too. As for the trip it was a good one. The count - 9 bull reds to 45", two smallish bull sharks, a keeper red, two keeper drum, plenty of whiting and croaker to keep us busy and a great day on the beach without the kids with my wife! I love you girl! |
